DCWD is most efficient among all water utilities

The Davao City Water District received an unexpected accolade from Administrator Jose Moises “Joy” Salonga of the Local Water Utilities Administration during an interview at DZRH “Special on Saturday” program hosted former PCO Secretary Cesar Chavez.

In a lively and informative exchanges between Salonga and Chavez, the LWUA administrator picked DCWD as the most efficient Water District from out of the more than 500 water utilities in the country which are supervised by LWUA.

DCWD Board Chairman Ed Bangayan thank LWUA Administrator for the recognition. He said, “DCWD Board and Management have been focused on how its consumers can be assured of sustained water supply for the present and future generstions”.

Last year, DCWD completed its ambitious ₱12.5-billion Bulk Water Project (BWP) it undertook in joint venture of Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. The project tapped the surface water of Tamugan and Panigan rivers which supply 300-million liters of treated water daily to DCWD’s various reservoirs through a network of distribution pipes in previous and expanded area of seven additional barangays.

The bulk water project complements the underground water supply DCWD originally derived from Davao City’s rich aquifers where 74 production wells operate. Presently moreover water is supplied by BWP allowing the vital aquifers to be recharged.

DCWD was extended non-collateralized loan by a bank to replaced old and small pipes in anticipation of stronger water pressure which will flow by gravity from the highly elevated Barangay Gumalang where the treatment plant and Laboratory complex are located about 70 kilometers from the urban center.

DCWD General Manager Mildred Aviles felt elated by the cognizance of LWUA Administrator Jose Salonga extended to her team and the entire workforce of DCWD. She also expressed he gratitude to the Board of Directors for its guidance and support.
