Davao City okays financial aid to Cebu quake victims

DAVAO CITY – The 21st Davao City Council passed over the weekend, an ordinance under suspended rules on Tuesday, October 21, authorizing acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte to utilize a portion of the city’s Quick Response Fund as financial assistance to areas in Cebu recently struck by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake.

The ordinance authorizes the city mayor to use the 30 percent Quick Response Fund (QRF) from the 2025 Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (DRRMF).

It was endorsed by the Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, and Appropriations, chaired by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, during the council’s 15th regular session.

The measure was certified as urgent by Acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II and signed by City Administrator Atty. Francis Mark Layog under Executive Order No. 12 issued on July 1.

The approved financial allocations are as follows:

Cebu Province – P1,000,000

Bogo City – P500,000

Municipality of Medellin – P300,000

Municipality of Daanbantayan – P300,000

Municipality of Tabogon – P300,000

Municipality of Madridejos – P300,000

Municipality of Sogod – P300,000

Municipality of Tabuelan – P300,000

Municipality of San Remigio – P300,000

Municipality of Borbon – P300,000

Dayanghirang said the assistance aims to support local government units in Cebu that have been placed under a state of calamity due to the extensive damage caused by the earthquake.

The Davao City Government, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, sent 57 personnel to Cebu earlier this month to deliver medical and food aid to earthquake victims. (By Ivy Tejano)
