DAVAO CITY – Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has delivered an emotional message to his family, encouraging his children to remain resilient during challenging times and to lead lives filled with purpose and faith.
The message was shared by his youngest daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, through a post on her Instagram account on the evening of Tuesday, June 3.
“Ate and kuyas, Papa has a message for us…,” Veronica wrote, addressing her older siblings: Vice President Sara Duterte, Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte, and First District Rep. Paolo Duterte.
In his message, the Duterte patriarch reminded his children to avoid dwelling in sorrow, saying that tears and sadness ultimately waste time and emotional energy.
“Be human, and be strong. Life is a battle—fight it well. Fight for God’s glory and nothing else. You only walk this earth once, so make it count,” Former President Duterte said, referring to her four children.
He also conveyed a deeply personal note to his long-time partner, Honeylet Avanceña, saying, “To Honeylet: Cherish life. I love you. I love you with all my heart.”
The former President also expressed profound affection for his youngest daughter, describing her as “a gift of love.”
Despite being widely known for his tough stance and firm leadership, the elder Duterte showed a more tender side in his message, especially when speaking about his youngest son, Sebastian.
He recalled an emotional moment upon seeing Vice Mayor Duterte, who traveled to The Hague in the Netherlands on Saturday, May 31, during the birthday celebration of Vice President Duterte.
Vice Mayor Duterte joined the gathering of Filipinos at The Hague to support the former President.
Former President Duterte spoke proudly of Sebastian, referring to him as his youngest son and expressing his deep admiration.
The message was part of an ongoing exchange between former President Duterte and his daughter Veronica, who regularly updates him with photos and videos of her life.
Former President Duterte reportedly became emotional after watching a video of Veronica singing, commenting on her beauty and talent. He praised her writing abilities, calling her bright and gifted, and expressed how her creativity brings him joy.
“He has always believed in your talents. You bring him happiness. He treasures every message, photo, call, and video you send. He loves you with all his heart,” the message conveyed.
