Sen. Risa Hontiveros had been sowing wind she is now reaping the whirlwind. This after the witness, alias “Rene”, which she presented in the Senate Committee hearing recanted his testimony against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. The witness who was identified by Hontiveros as Michael Maurillo claimed that he was allegedly paid by Hontiveros to make false accusations against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, former President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Sara Duterte.

Senator Hontiveros flatly denied the accusation and announced that she will file an appropriate case against Maurillo. In a public statement she claimed that Maurillo may have been “coerced and paid off to derail the ongoing criminal proceedings against Quiboloy.” It is interesting to note however, that before alias “Rene” came out to recant his statement, nobody was certain about his true identity since all of the time he was hooded , remained incognito and his whereabouts is unknown.

This is an unfolding development for the Akbayan Senator who had been in the forefront in the Senate to derail VP Sara’s political path towards the presidency. No one can ever forget how intensely she ranted against Sara: “While Vice President Sara Duterte is in power, the threat of a full-blown Duterte comeback is “still very real and present danger”. I do not know as to whom was/is that addressed but given her political ideology as member of Akbayan it is obvious that she had in mind her colleagues in the same ideological persuasion.

Her phobia against a Sara Duterte presidency has become so intense and borders in irrational fear. I can just imagine how she reacted on the recently released Presidential Preferential survey released by Tangere where Sara is comfortably on top while she is in the tailend. That, despite the discordant cry of anti-Duterte critics to impeach and bring her to trial.
