* Eyes September operations

DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Water District (DCWD) announced Tuesday that its state-of-the-art Septage Treatment Plant (SpTP) is now 93 percent complete and is expected to be fully operational by September.
Located in Barangay Indangan, the SpTP plays a key role in the Septage Management Program (SMP), which is designed to treat the wastewater collected during the program’s implementation.
DCWD spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod said in an interview that the facility can hold 100 cubic meters, or 100,000 gallons, of septage, with the potential for expansion to 200 cubic meters.
“The schedule of our five-year dislodging cycle is based on how close the area is to the treatment plant because it would be illogical to schedule areas far from the SpTP first,” Duhaylungsod explained.
Duhaylungsod said the SMP is a collaborative project with the city government, serving as an interim solution for the city’s sewerage.
She said that the DCWD will prepare a scheduled route plan each month and will also notify affected households at least a month before dislodging to ensure a household representative is present.
“Homeowners with their septic tanks or access holes located inside the house are urged to have a septic tank outside or an accessible access hole,” Duhaylungsod added. (PNA)
