DAVAO CITY – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) rolled out the second phase of the “Libreng Sakay” (Free Ride) program here on Friday, this time reintroducing the iconic “love buses.”
Last month, the DOTr launched the program’s first phase, deploying eight buses that provide free service along the Lasang to Roxas route during daily peak hours.

In an interview, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the Love Bus Libreng Sakay Program is a revival under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive during his 4th State of the Nation Address. It aims to provide Filipinos with free, safe, and convenient rides while reintroducing the charm and service quality that made the Love Bus memorable.
“This started in Metro Manila but we all know that commuting is not only hard in Metro Manila, but in all major cities in the country,” Dizon said.
The free rides will be available on weekdays during peak hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will also be free all day on weekends and holidays.
The new Love Bus Libreng Sakay route will be from the University of Mindanao – Matina to Mintal.
“We have eight units in this route,” Dizon added. With four round-trips per unit during the peak hours, the buses are expected to provide free public rides to about 3,360 passengers per day. (PNA)
