Pres. Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, Jr. is in the dumps. Closely following the Social Weather Station (SWS) Trust rating survey done in mid-December which showed a -3% (negative 3 percent) result, is Pulse Asia yearend survey which reaffirmed the Filipinos pessimism over the President’s performance.
The net Trust Rating of Marcos was even more telling at -15% in contrast to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte 30%! On the other hand, 47% of Filipinos distrust Marcos while VP Sara enjoys a high trust or positive assessment with at 56%.
Malacanang, through its spokesperson Claire Castro, pretends to be unperturbed and declares that the President is busy addressing the corruption problems. Castro is playing possum as though she is not aware that the big part of the problem is right in the halls of the Presidential Palace.
The people’s collective frustration and disappointment cannot be ignored by Marcos and his confreres. It means that in the next months that is left in his presidency is nothing but endurance and hopelessness. We have a President who, in the face of problems would say, that what we have is part of the new normal. Or, confronted with diverse problems childishly asks: “what is happening to our government?’’ He simply forgot that he is the President.
We are facing the new year like it is nothing but a blank wall. Despite the call for him to resign Marcos ignores the it. The resounding protest and rage have become to loud, the decibels must have reached an intensity that Marcos can no longer hear.
2026 will be a bleak year. It will take a sixth glorious mystery if by quirk of circumstance a glimmer of light will shine in the darkest days that shrouded our native land.
