It stopped feeling like a hearing. It started feeling like a show.
Hindi ito aksidente. The shift was palpable the moment Sen. Panfilo Lacson took the helm of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
A Senate inquiry is supposed to be sacred ground — a venue where truth is dissected, not directed. Where facts are pursued, not pre-selected. Where the gavel commands order, not orchestrates optics.
But lately, maraming Pilipino ang napapailing.
Let’s be clear: questioning is part of oversight. Tough grilling is expected. But consistency is the currency of credibility. Once the public senses uneven handling — whether intentional or not — doubt creeps in.
This hearing… is it in aid of legislation?
Or in aid of “liquidation?” Hindi tanga ang publiko.
They can distinguish between accountability and choreography. And when the flow of a hearing begins to resemble damage control instead of damage discovery, trust bleeds.
The Blue Ribbon Committee has always carried symbolic weight. It is meant to be the Senate’s sharpest instrument against corruption. Hindi ito entablado ng narrative management. Hindi ito rehearsal hall ng political preservation.
Leadership at that level demands visible neutrality. Hindi sapat ang pagiging mahusay magtanong. Kailangan malinaw na walang pinapanigan. The chair sets the climate — and climate shapes perception.
Right now, perception is shifting.Maraming nagsasabi: “Parang may pinoprotektahan.”
Maraming nagtatanong: “Bakit parang may ina-abswelto bago pa man matapos ang imbestigasyon?”
These are dangerous murmurs — not for personalities, but for institutions.
Because when a Senate probe starts looking like a “circus”, it’s not just reputations at stake. It’s institutional trust.
Accountability should be steady. Methodical.
Ruthless in fairness. Hindi selective. Hindi emotional. Hindi theatrical.
The gavel should echo authority — not agenda.
And if the public begins to believe that the show matters more than the substance, then we are no longer watching justice unfold. 😮💨
We are watching confidence collapse.
That is the real CIRCUS .
And the Filipino people deserve far better than front-row seats to it.
