- Cited PBBM “fractured governance”
DAVAO CITY—With the country’s current fiasco, Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has challenged the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ top official to be brave enough to take a stand and protect the Filipinos and the Constitution.
Duterte has called on the attention of AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. to “correct” the “fractured governance” of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“Will you continue to support a drug addict? Until when are you supporting the president,” he added.
Duterte described Brawner as a non-reactive leader because he never reacted to what was happening in the government.
“Kung pabor siya sa bayan at iinsist niya na matino, wala tayong magagawa. That is his point of view,” he said, adding that Brawner cannot talk for himself.
Duterte pointed out that the military can act on it or just sit and do nothing.
“They can tell the government that they do not like the game they are playing to people. That they are oppressing the people and spending our money like water,” he added.
The former president also said that he would be meeting with the military and talking to them about various issues confronted by the country.
Meanwhile, Ret. BGen. Orlando de Leon called Brawner a coward.
In a public post, De Leon said Brawner just throws his soldiers and subordinates under the bus to save his neck.
“Mr. Brawner, you don’t deserve your designation as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. You don’t deserve the respect of the whole soldiery,” he said.
De Leon added, “No wonder that you avoided hazardous duty all your life because you lack the wherewithal to lead, much less to uphold the morale of your troops. You are nothing but a bootlicking four-star disgrace.”
As a response, Brawner rejected the call made by Duterte for the military to intervene to protect the Constitution saying that the military respects the political beliefs of everyone but soldiers cannot just air their grievances freely, being members of the AFP.###
