For many Filipinos, the President’s latest State of the Nation Address was not merely a report of accomplishments. It was a test of credibility.
After years of hearing promises of reform, efficiency, accountability, and prosperity, many citizens tuned in hoping for answers to the questions that continue to haunt the nation. 🤔
They expected clarity on why corruption remains deeply entrenched. They wanted explanations for unfinished flood control projects, delayed infrastructure, rising costs of living, overcrowded hospitals, inadequate classrooms, and the continuing hardships faced by ordinary families.🤔
Most of all, they wanted proof that government is capable of delivering results.☝️
Last year, the President’s now-famous challenge, “Mahiya naman kayo,” resonated across the country. It was interpreted as a strong warning against corruption and abuse of public funds. It raised public expectations that those responsible for wasting the people’s money would be identified and held accountable regardless of rank, influence, or political affiliation.
Yet many Filipinos today are asking: “What happened after the speeches ended? Or MGA WALANGHIYA TALAGA KAYO?!”
Where are the major convictions? Where are the high-ranking officials who allegedly betrayed public trust? Why does accountability often appear to stop at the lower levels of government while the powerful remain insulated from consequences?
“These are not questions of politics. They are questions of justice.”❗️
The frustration felt by many citizens does not stem from a lack of patience. Filipinos have always been patient. They have endured inflation, floods, traffic congestion, poor public services, and endless bureaucratic obstacles.
They have waited in long lines for government CASH assistance which is the only band aid solution to a wounded economy. They have endured overcrowded emergency rooms and shortages of medicines. They have watched farmers struggle with rising production costs and fisherfolk battle declining incomes. They have seen young people fight for educational opportunities while parents work tirelessly just to keep their children in school.
The Filipino people have already done their part.
The question now is whether government is doing its part.⁉️
The reality on the ground remains difficult to ignore. In many communities, public hospitals continue to operate beyond capacity. Rural health units struggle with limited resources. Schools still face shortages of classrooms and facilities. Farmers continue to seek meaningful support beyond temporary interventions. Infrastructure projects are announced with great fanfare but often suffer from delays, cost overruns, and eventual destruction due to poor & questionable implementation
The challenge facing the administration is no longer how to craft inspiring speeches. The challenge is how to transform promises into measurable outcomes.
Governance is not measured by applause inside the halls of Congress. It is measured by the quality of life experienced by ordinary citizens outside those halls.‼️
A successful administration is not defined by the number of projects announced but by the number completed safely and properly. It is not measured by the amount of money allocated but by the value delivered to the public. It is not judged by political slogans but by whether the poorest Filipino feels that government is genuinely working for them.
As the administration enters another critical year, the Filipino people deserve more than declarations. They deserve transparency. They deserve accountability. They deserve institutions that work efficiently and fairly. They deserve a justice system that punishes wrongdoing regardless of status. They deserve a government that treats public service not as a privilege of power but as a sacred responsibility sworn to deliver.
This is not a call for CYNICISM. It is a call for VIGILANCE‼️
Democracy does not end after elections.
Citizenship does not end after paying taxes. The duty of the Filipino people is not “blind loyalty to any administration”, nor automatic opposition to it. Our duty is to demand results, scrutinize public spending, question inefficiency, expose corruption, and hold leaders accountable to the promises they make.
Government officials are “merely stewards of public resources”. The true owners are WE, the Filipino people‼️
Every peso spent comes from our hardearned taxes. Every project funded is financed by the sacrifices of workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and overseas Filipino workers. Every failure of governance carries a human cost borne by ordinary families❗️
The nation does not need more promises suspended in the air. It needs visible, lasting improvements in the lives of its people.The coming years will determine whether this administration will be remembered as one that transformed institutions and strengthened public trust, or one that allowed opportunities for reform to slip away.
The Filipino people are watching.
And after years of waiting, they are no longer listening only to what government says.
WE are watching what government does and not following promises now even reaching the space.🙄🚀
