The news is all over. The price of gasoline will rise to between P3.30-P3.50 a liter; Diesel may go up to between P5.00-P5.20 a liter and Kerosene may go up to between P4.50-P4.70 per liter. Prices of prime commodities will increase while the value of the ₱eso will decline against the US dollar.

All these projections happened under the nose of President Marcos and his economic advisers but he comes on live television announcing that the war between Iran and Israel will have insignificant impact on the Philippine economy. Like his spokesperson, Usec. Claire Castro reverberates the assurance of the President with a broad smile on her face as if the war that has escalated with the bombing of Qatar by Iran is merely a word of war or slingshots.

From out of the blue government propagandists and paid hacks fired a new vilification campaign accusing Vice President Sara of being pro-China obviously to divert the attention of the public from the apathy of the national leadership on public amidst the looming crises that the war had spawned.

While the Israelis escaped their abodes in droves, Malacanang announced it is not yet time to repatriate the Overseas Filipino Workers. In the meantime however, all efforts had been exerted to repatriate politicians who were stranded in Israel via Jordan.

Our OFWs do not deserve this selective treatment. This will moreover be etched in the national consciousness and those behind this deplorable indifference will one day, sooner or later, have their comeuppance.
