Approval ratings for the country’s top officials declined this quarter, reflecting the country’s key performance indicators. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s approval dropped sharply from 43% to 33%, while Senate President Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero fell from 41% to 37%, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez from 25% to 20%. Vice President Sara Duterte (40% to 37%) and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo (28% to 25%) remained statistically stable.
The statistics were culled from Publicus Asia, Inc. year end report released over the weekend.
Public dissatisfaction with President Marcos is tied to unresolved issues like corruption (19%) and inflation (17%), which directly impact households. For VP Duterte, key controversies negatively affecting her performance include her remarks perceived as threats against President Marcos and others (20%), COA’s AOM to the OVP (19%), and her comment on exhuming the late President Marcos, Sr. (15%).
Trust ratings also declined, with President Marcos’ trust dropping from 32% to 23% (distrust rising to 44%) and Speaker Romualdez from 18% to 13% (distrust at 51%). Trust in VP Duterte (33% to 31%), SP Escudero (28% to 26%), and CJ Gesmundo (20% to 17%) remained relatively stable.
Government agency ratings also hit record lows, with TESDA (47%) maintaining the highest rating, followed closely by AFP (46%). The least approved agencies were the House of Representatives and DSHUD (both at 36%). While TESDA, AFP, and DOST remain the top-performing agencies, the trend of declining approval persists across the board.
