DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sebastian Duterte encouraged the people of Davao to celebrate Christmas with passion, hope, and love as the city government officially launched this year’s Pasko Fiesta through the Dan-ag sa Davao and Pag-abli sa Pasko events on Thursday night, November 28.
With the theme “Stronger, Brighter, and Happier Together,” the celebration featured the lighting of a towering Christmas tree and elaborate decorations at Rizal Park and Quezon Park, drawing hundreds of attendees, including government officials, to witness the festive opening.
The “Enchanted Woodland” Christmas installation offered an immersive experience, transforming the city center into a magical forest that captured the essence of joy, wonder, and unity during the holiday season. Complemented by performances from local talents, vibrant food fairs, and family-friendly activities, the event reflected the city’s rich culture and community spirit.
Speaking on behalf of Mayor Duterte, Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. underscored that this year’s Pasko Fiesta symbolizes the strength, resilience, and unity of the Davaoeño community, who have overcome challenges and emerged stronger together.
“I urge everyone to participate in the activities prepared for you. Let this holiday season remind us that even in adversity, the resilience and determination of Davaoeños shine through,” Duterte said in his message delivered in the local dialect.
The Mayor also shared his Christmas wish for the city, hoping the illuminated Christmas tree would inspire individuals to bring light into their own lives and the lives of others. “Even in the darkest times, light guides us toward better days. May our hearts be filled with resilience, joy, and hope as we work towards a stronger, brighter, and happier tomorrow together as one community,” he added.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including Rep. Paolo Duterte’s son Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, lawyer and businessman Jude Ralph Villacin Yap, consuls general and representatives from consular offices, deputy mayors from 11 ethnolinguistic tribes, and leaders from the private sector.
Committee on Tourism and Beautification Chairperson Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre and Vice Mayor Quitain welcomed guests, government officials, employees, and spectators, expressing gratitude to all who supported the event.
Jennifer Romero, head of the Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), revealed that the city allocated P45 million to P50 million for the month-long Pasko Fiesta celebration. Meanwhile, around 35,000 security personnel were deployed to ensure safety and maintain order throughout the festivities.
