Davao City welcomes newly DCPO police chief

DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Government on Monday, March 30, welcomed Police Colonel Peter Bauzon Madria as the new director of the Davao City Police Office, marking a leadership transition aimed at maintaining public safety and strengthening law enforcement.

Madria assumed the post from outgoing acting city director Police Colonel Mannan Muarip, who served the DCPO for the past eight months. The program included arrival honors and the signing of documents for the transfer of duties.

The turnover ceremony, held at Sandigan Hall at Camp Captain Domingo E. Leonor on San Pedro Street, was presided over by Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, regional director of the Police Regional Office-11.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by retired Police Lt. Col. Angel Sumagaysay, head of the Davao Public Safety and Security Center, thanked Muarip for his service, citing his role in maintaining peace and order in the city.

The mayor urged the newly-installed director to maintain DCPO standards and lead in a way that builds trust and unity. He also asked police officers to show the same commitment and professionalism to their new director as they had shown before.

Duterte emphasized that public safety remains a top priority for the local government and credited the DCPO under Muarip’s leadership for its continued efforts to secure Davao City and maintain peace and order.

He also highlighted the “Davao Framework”—focused on discipline, action, virtue, accountability, and order—as a key initiative that improved operational performance while promoting a culture of public service within the police force.

As the outgoing police director moves to a new assignment, Duterte expressed hope that he would continue to exemplify integrity and inspire others in both the police organization and the broader community.

Sumagaysay, meanwhile, acknowledged Muarip’s contributions, describing his leadership as hands-on and visible in operations. He said Muarip’s presence boosted personnel morale and noted that there were no major incidents during large events.

The PSSCC official also expressed appreciation for Muarip’s strong partnership with the city’s Security and Safety Cluster and wished him continued success in his next post and future assignments.

“Congratulations, Police Colonel Peter Madriaga. We look to you to sustain the best practices of the Davao City Police Office and to uphold its legacy of service and protection for the welfare of the people,” Duterte said.

Following his assumption of office, Madria convened his first command conference with senior officers, station commanders, and support units to align operational priorities and address current concerns.

In a press release posted on the DCPO’s official Facebook page on Monday afternoon, the unit heads presented updates on their respective functions, ongoing operations, and key challenges before their new director.

Madria assured personnel of his support and directed intensifying anti-criminality efforts, emphasizing proactive measures to prevent crime and maintain public safety across Davao City.

According to the newly installed police director, the DCPO’s personnel have expressed full support for his leadership, reaffirming their commitment to serving and protecting the city’s residents.

The DCPO said the change in command represents both continuity and renewal, with the police force expected to build on existing gains while advancing initiatives that promote security, accountability, and community partnership. (By Ivy Tejano)
