One week after we started to commercially sell the Baled Sorghum Silage which our small company, the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures Inc. (SAAVI), is producing, we are getting very positive and encouraging feedback from Cattle and Goat farmers who have tried it.
A group of Dairy Goat Farmers from Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur, who purchased initially 25 bales for trials reported that their dairy goats fed well on the Sorghum Silage.
Paul Laruya who is coordinating the Sorghum Silage procurement for the Dairy Farmers Cooperative of Magsaysay said following the successful trials, they will be procuring 200 bales every week, roughly 10-metric tons.
He said the farmers found the selling price, P300 per bale delivered to their coop warehouse, very affordable.
The coop is now establishing a storage area with adequate protection against rodents (rats love the sweet smell of fermented Sorghum Silage) so that they could start buying by truckloads.
“This makes Dairy Goat Farming easier for us. Our farmers love this,” Laruya said.
We also received the same feedback from backyard Cattle and Goat farmers who said that they have been unburdened with the hard work of harvesting forage.
These reactions and feedback are heartwarming.
Now, we will be expanding our Sorghum Silage Production area to at least 50 hectares per month to produce an estimated 1,500-metric tons.
