Last February 14, my husband treated me to a sumptuous lunch date at the Discovery Samal. This was our first time in this 5-star luxury resort and we liked what we saw and experienced…from start-to-end!
The welcome guest center is clean, air-conditioned and spacious. It has wi-fi service and serves light snacks. They made it so comfortable that we didn’t mind the wait. They also have a shuttle service (either via mini bus or golf cart) to bring guests from the welcome center (Davao side) and from the resort lobby (Samal side) to the docking area. That’s a big plus for senior citizens and for those avoiding direct sunlight.
Arriving at the resort, we were welcomed by their staff with refreshing pomelo juice. After a short stroll and photo ops in the beach and pool area, we immediately proceeded to their Morning Catch restaurant for our buffet lunch. They have a generous buffet spread of fresh seafood and Asian cuisine. Make sure to check their dessert bar for those after-meal treats.
Aside from Morning Catch, the other food outlets are: The Bistro, located at the Villa pool and gives guests a more scenic view; The Haribar Lounge where guests can wine and dine; and The Shoreline, located at the 6th level of the resort, offers an all-day dining experience. Whatever your heart and taste-buds desire, Discovery Samal has it!
The resort’s 153 beautiful villas and suites located in 4 different levels, offer first class accommodation. Each of their suite rooms give guests a magnificent view of the Davao gulf while the 10 private and stand-alone villas provide guests with their own private garden pool and access to exclusive villa amenities and facilities. Topping their accommodation entrée is their Presidential Suite which has 4 rooms, own pool and a helipad. I was told that Vice Ganda rented the Presidential Suite for his family vacation.
If you get tired of swimming, the resort also has other recreational areas where both adults and kids can have fun. But what impressed me the most in the resort is their floating chapel, with the most simple but beautiful altar with Davao City landscape as background. It’s perfect for weddings, and other similar occasions, especially with the function room nearby.
Let me not forget to mention the resort’s very hospitable, accommodating and courteous staff. The quality of service is consistent from the welcome center to the ferry, the reception area, the restaurants, and even to the resort ground. The Filipino hospitality is very much alive and felt all around the resort.
