GovGen to legalize prizes for athletes

Fresh from wrapping up the general championship of the Davao Oriental provincial games, the first-class town of Governor Generoso will craft an ordinance mandating cash prizes for winning local athletes.

“This will compensate for the efforts local athletes have devoted in excelling in their events,” said Mayor Juanito “Kulot” Inojales on Monday.

The mayor led municipal officials in distributing cash prizes amounting to P500,000 to elementary and high school athletes that retained in overwhelming fashion the championship the town first won in 2024.

The local government unit has decided to award P3,000 for gold medalists each, P2000 for silver and P1000 for bronze.

Inojales said the secondary and elementary athletes were deserving of the cash prizes the local government has decided to award to them.

He said in a consultation with Vice-Mayor Pinky Inojales, it was agreed that a municipal ordinance will be crafted mandating the awarding of prizes to athletes that excelled in their respective events.

In this year’s edition, Governor Generoso captured 98 golds, 47 silvers and 49 bronzes. It practically dominated swimming and dance sports and performed strongly in the other events.
