Greed and loyalty (Editorial by Jun Ledesma)

The present political imbroglio that stemmed from endless congressional investigations focusing mainly on past President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, the incumbent Vice President Sara, has created a schism in the nation with a dangerous potential of a social upheaval .

The symptoms that could lead to this are all there. Unprecedented corruption that quietly depletes the government’s coffers prompting the leadership to unload tons of gold from the vaults of the Central Bank, dipping into the PhilHealth funds and unimpeded utilization of unprogrammed funds among others.

To deflect the nations attention on these magma of graft and corruption the legislators who are part of the syndicate have turned themselves into grand inquisitors called QuadCom and empowering themselves with judiciary roles and authority.

The mainstream media are absolutely controlled. They assembled at first to tell the public that they will not be instruments of fake news but agreed to stonewall the truths.

A convict among the legislators served as the lead of the phalanx of hyenas hankering to have a pound of flesh from their victims – VP Sara Duterte and her retired and tired father, the past President Rodrigo Duterte. QuadCom tried every trick to force VP Sara reveal how, when, what and who were the recipients of the CONFIDENTIAL and intelligence funds.

They subjected resource persons from the Office of the Vice President and brutally grilled them to elicit answers they wanted to hear and when these are not congruent to their scheme they hold either the witness or the resource person in contempt and send them to jail. Power has bored deeply into their skulls that the ignoramus among them had the temerity to order that they can send an innocent person to jail.

Thus the nation tired and sick and hungry started to realize these endless prosecution and persecution of the country’s two most adored leaders are just mantles to cover the unmitigated corruption that is pushing the country into the edge of perdition.

The docile leadership of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippines declared without being prodded that they follow the chain of command as if to warn the rebellious that any attempt of reviving people power will be promptly addressed. The two institutions that ought to protect the people from injustice had adhered to their loyalty to the line of command and had disregarded their prime obligation that demands their loyalty to the constitution. Theirs is for the protection of individual rights, freedoms, and the rule of law and not the interest of a few who wants to perpetuate themselves in power and lust on the nation’s wealth.
