DAVAO CITY – Disney Philippines’ special block screening of “Moana 2” drew an audience of over a hundred VIP pass holders at SM Cinema in Lanang in Davao City on November 27.
The audience was thrilled to watch the movie and thanked Disney Philippines and Amplify Philippines for the opportunity to witness the magic of the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana 2.
Moana 2, officially released at the cinemas nationwide, allowed viewers to reflect on Disney’s approach to storytelling and its broader cultural significance.
“We laughed at Maui’s hilarious punchlines, found Hei-Hei and Pua irresistibly adorable, and felt inspired by Moana’s unwavering bravery and determination,” content creator Ara Casas-Tumuran said on her Facebook page.
Jexx Hinggo, a content creator, also shared his experience during the block screening of the movie on his Facebook page. He said the continuation of Moana’s journey will surely captivate audiences.
For Quinn Florence Astillo, a video editor and digital marketing specialist at the Ikigai Animation Studio, Moana 2 has a generic story with elements similar to the first movie. He said it does not feel like a sequel with the same formula of defeating a tyrant god for the sake of Moana’s people.
“Besides the occasional comedy lines and catchy songs, the Moana 2 felt like a rush concept undercooked from Pixar. But overall, it was a good movie for children,” Astillo said.
The sequel, which revisits Moana’s journey three years after the original film, builds on themes of leadership, resilience, and the bond between humanity and nature.
Critics and audiences alike were keen to see how the story evolves, mainly as Moana ventures into uncharted waters to confront a potent antagonist and save her world again.
The involvement of the Pacific Islander creatives ensures the narrative resonates with its roots, fostering more profound respect for Oceania’s rich heritage.
