Europe is home to the best and most beautiful markets in the world. That’s why I made sure that I get to visit as many Christmas Markets as I could while we’re here in Germany. So far, I have visited six. Each one offers its unique holiday warmth, charm and atmosphere.
But I have to say that the one in Strasbourg, France is the grandest of them all. Dating back to 1570, the Strasbourg’s Christmas market is the oldest in France and one of the oldest on Europe. Well, it’s not called the Capital of Christmas for nothing. It’s famous for its enchanting markets and magical vibes perfect for celebrating the holiday season. The city is transformed into a winter wonderland, with its Christmas themed and beautifully adorned streets, buildings, shops, cafes and restaurants. The scent of cinnamon, spices and gluhwein fills the air and completes the holiday spirit.

At the heart of Place Kleber is the 30-meter tall Grand Sapin (fir tree), with colorful ornaments and shimmering lights. This musical tree, which is basically the symbol of “Strasbourg, Capitale de Noel”, is the highest decorated Christmas tree in Europe.

Aside from experiencing the Christmas market, the city features beautiful cathedrals. The one we were able to visit was the Notre Dame Cathedral, which for 227 years (1647-1874) was considered the world’s tallest structure. Both its exteriors and interiors are architecturally impressive. It also houses one of the most famous astronomical clock, dating back to 1843.

There are still a lot to explore in Strasbourg. We took a 45-minute river cruise for the opportunity to see as many of the city’s highlights. Our overnight trip was not enough but Strasbourg definitely treated us to a magical Christmas experience.
A Happy and a Blessed 2026 everyone!!!
