The demise of impeachment (Editorial by Jun Ledesma)

The more President Marcos declares he is against the impeachment of VP Sara Duterte the more it becomes incredible. While he says that he had been explaining why he does not want impeachment the more it becomes inconceivable that he has nothing to do with the impeachment of VP Sara.

He is President and wields enormous power and influence and the Speaker of the House is his first cousin, Martin Romualdez. Between the two of them they rule the country. They plot how the money in the treasury will be allocated as revealed by various blanks in the enrolled bill and carried over in General Application Act.

While the communist fronts and allies of Speaker Romualdez were vilifying the Vice President, Marcos was looking at the opposite direction in acquiescence to what his cousin and his attack dogs are doing to raise their issues against VP Sara to have her impeached.

Now that the people have strongly demonstrated their utter disdain for what this administration had done in illegally arresting former president Rodrigo Duterte and the impeachment of the vice president by way of rejecting the Alyansa candidates and opted for PDP-Laban, President Marcos wants the people to believe that he is against the impeachment of the Vice President.

His negation has become superfluous. As former Senate President Franklin Drilon enunciated, the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte is unlikely to proceed as he cited legal uncertainties, a lack of votes among senators to convict. Besides, the impeachment preliminary had been reset to June 11 just two days when the 19th Congress ends its business. Under the new members of the Senate who will then be the Senator-Judges impeachment will just be a hiccup in the House of Romualdez.
