The Louvre Abu Dhabi (Wanderlust by Jay Ledesma)

Everybody knows about the iconic Le Louvre Museum in Paris.  Considered as one of the most famous museums in the world, the Louvre Museum Paris houses, among many other art pieces, the world’s most precious and treasured painting, Mona Lisa by  Leonardo da Vinci.

But during our latest short trip to Abu Dhabi, we learned about The Louvre Abu Dhabi.   A product of the partnership between France and United Arab Emirates, Louvre Abu Dhabi is one of the first competed projects of the Saadiyat Cultural District, eyed to be Abu Dhabi’s leading destination for art, history and culture.  Though different in form and structure, both Louvre Paris and Abu Dhabi are equally impressive.

Inaugurated only in 2017, the Louvre Abu Dhabi has already attracted more than 6 million.  In 2024 alone, it recorded its highest attendance with more than 1.4 million visitors for the year.

It’s no surprise because the museum boasts of spectacular architecture and rich art collections.  The museum stands on a virgin lagoon island, between sand and sea.  We were told that more attractions are in the offing to showcase the lagoon island.  Inside the museum are some 700 artworks from every period and civilizations, from historic times to present day and onward to the future.  Visitors are guided through a chronological and themed-based sections of the museum.  Aside from these permanent collections, every year they also exhibit masterpieces “temporary loaned” to them by their different partner museums around the world.  Each piece on display reveals a story of cultural significance, providing insight into how its contributions and  legacy influence and inspire today’s culture and beyond.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is definitely a must-see attraction!
