DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte clarified over the weekend that she has not yet finalized a slate of 12 senatorial candidates for the 2028 elections.
Duterte told Davao reporters that some individuals have already expressed interest in joining her ticket if she decides to run and that they too will also pursue candidacy.
“But if you are asking whether there is a list or if we have discussed the matter, there is none yet,” Duterte said, refusing to name those who have approached her.
The Vice President cited the current intense political climate. She said those who come near her including friends and supporters, are being harassed, threatened, face legal cases, and attacked.
Duterte noted that all parties are still presumptive candidates, with no certificates of candidacy filed yet. “We do not know if they will proceed with their candidacy. Let’s wait until then.”
Regarding a potential running mate, Duterte confirmed that she has no vice-presidential candidate at this time. “If there is one and they are ready to declare their candidacy, I will reveal that as a matter of course .”
Earlier, Duterte said she has recruited a potential running mate for the 2028 presidential elections, but the individual has not yet decided whether to run for vice president.
