Farming Requires Patience & Perseverance! (FOOD FOR THOUGHT by Manny Piñol)

Almost 2 years ago, an American friend sent me packets of Soybeans foundation seeds for trial planting in the Philippines.

Unfortunately, the shipment was held up at the ports for my failure to submit the needed import documents.

So, out of the over 2,500 seeds, only 9 terminated and of the 9, I chose to propagate only two varieties because of the big sizes of their beans.

Propagating the two varieties from just 2 seeds did not come easy.

The plants suffered root rot and fungal attack.

A faint-hearted farmer would have given up but I did not.

I saved whatever seeds were harvested and propagated these again.

Today, from out of those two seeds, I was able to produce about 25 kilos which had been planted for the 4th production cycle.

I expect to produce at least 500 kilos of seeds before the end of the year.

With that quantity of seeds, we will be able to massively plant these outstanding Soybeans varieties.

All that was needed was patience and perseverance!
