The hybrid kids out of the mating of Spanish Breed with Philippine Native Goats are amazingly beautiful.
The genetic traits of the Spanish Goats are so dominant that the kids coming out of this breeding program carry the fur color of the sires.
The Mindanao Small Ruminants Nucleus Farm (MSRNF) in Makilala, North Cotabato, a project of the Bureau of Animal Industry through a local cooperative, COLIPAA, is upgrading native goats using the Spanish breed.
These two photos show the latest addition to the growing number of the Spanish/PNG Hybrids in the MSRNF.
Practical Poultry Farming!
Over the years that I had been breeding my own chicken strain, Manok Pinoy, I made adjustments and modifications in our farming system.
The latest adjustment we made was to address a pestering problem, the wily Black Crows which raid the nesting boxes in the free range areas.
The new breeding system uses bigger pens which could accomodate 20 hens and 4 roosters.
This is possible because the Manok Pinoy roosters which I bred are not vicious and they could be placed in one breeding pen.
The breeding pens are made out of tubular bars measuring 3×4 meters in width and 8 feet high.
The nests are made of used plastic containers with rags or used sacks as matting.
With this new set up, we have effectively addressed the Black Crow problem.
Now, we could easily manage the health conditions of the fowls and identify which of the hens are poor layers.
