The Cape of San Agustin in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental will undergo a major improvement to enhance and to sustain its attraction as a tourism destination.

“We are looking at a package that will induce tourists to visit the tourism facility not once but several times,” said Gov. Nelson Dayanghirang during an inspection of the facility on Tuesday.

He said the distance to the Cape of San Agustin remains a major drawback. “However, if its attractiveness is enhanced, its standing as Davao Oriental’s top tourist drawer will be assured.”

The governor inspected the site with a team of experts and with LGU officials led by Mayor Juanito Inojales and Vice-Mayor Pinky Inojales.

The governor did not go into specifics but said his team is working on finalizing its plans based on the result of the inspection.

His team is also looking forward to speed up the opening of the Cabuaya-Macambol road stretch that will cut travel time to the Cape of San Agustin from the capital city of Mati.

Located at the mouth of the Davao Gulf, Governor Generoso is the country’s southeasternmost tip. It can be accessed from Davao City after a four-hour trip on paved roads.

Its main attractions include three concrete lighthouses that stare at the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Celebes Sea to the south and the Davao Gulf to the west.

Dayanghirang also inspected the district hospital located in Governor Generoso and vowed to construct an additional building to be able to cope with a growing clientele.

Inojales said the governor also vowed to strengthen services, add personnel and to renovate rooms.

“The intention is to provide wholesome and effective service to the people of Governor Generoso and nearby towns,” he said.

Mayor Inojales said the rehabilitation of the Cape of San Agustin eco-park and the district hospital will go a long way in helping create an atmosphere conducive to livelihood and business.

“These will boost our reputation as a tourist destination and as place to live and to do business,” he said. (Jimmy K. Laking)
