JUSTICE IN CHAINS: A CIRCUS OF CLOWNS AND PUPPET MASTERS (Editorial by Carlo Manubag)

Carlo Manubag

Why hate the man who fought relentlessly against drug syndicates, corruption, and above all, the long-standing insurgency that has bled our nation for decades?

Joma Sison, the head of the National Democratic Front and founder of the CPP–NPA — a group officially tagged as terrorists — was responsible for countless atrocities. Thousands of innocent lives were lost, livelihoods destroyed, and communities forced to live in fear. Yet he lived comfortably in The Netherlands, granted asylum instead of facing trial for crimes against humanity in The Hague.

And then there’s Rodrigo Duterte — a former president who, despite his imperfections, waged a war to restore order, peace, and discipline in a country long plagued by illegal drugs sydicate, criminality and corruption.

Instead of being tried and judged by his own people under our own laws, he is being dragged before an international court.

This isn’t just ironic — it’s tragic. When a nation punishes those who stood firm to protect it, while those who waged war against it are sheltered abroad, it exposes a justice system that is not only flawed but blind, biased, and broken.

Adding insult to injury, the current BBM administration continues to put up a show — where corruption issues are treated like a theatrical performance: flawed, dramatic, and senselessly entertaining. It has become a circus of clowns and acrobats, where the three pillars of government are in cahoots to serve their puppet master — the President himself.

The people are watching — disillusioned yet hopeful that someday, justice will again stand tall and unshaken.

Because “true justice” should never be dictated by politics, favoritism, or fear. It must serve truth, fairness, and the Filipino people.

Until that day comes, our nation remains trapped in a tragic comedy — where the villains are free, and the patriots are condemned.
