A poor boy from Kiamba, Saranggani who worked as Janitor in a Cattle Feedlot in South Cotabato and later became Manager of a 30,000-head Wagyu Fattening Facility in Australia, is literally breathing fire into an almost dormant Cattle Industry of the country.
Arnel Corpuz, a college drop-out who gained mastery in Cattle Nutrition after working for 11 years in the Wagyu Fattening Facility in Northern Australia, has re-invigorated the Cattle Industry by moving around the country to share his knowledge and experiences.
His principle is “Simplified Cattle Farming” which recommends Feeding Protocols based on the available materials locally.
In our jointly-operated Wagyu Farm in Polomolok, we have started using Sorghum Silage.
In other areas, it could be Corn, Napier, Rice Straws or even Sugarcane tops depending on the availability and sustainability of the supply.
He has delivered lectures around the country on Cattle Nutrition and has published the Philippine Cattle Feeding Handbook.
Today, Arnel, who now owns half of the cattle Feedlot in Polomolok where he worked as Janitor before, is promoting Wagyu and Wagyu-Cross Farming to improve the quality of Beef for Filipinos.
The Cattle Industry now is humming with activity, especially with the introduction of Confined Cattle Raising and the “Off-Farm” Wagyu Raising which allows professionals, businessmen and even OFWs to own and raise this premium Cattle breed.
Arnel’s life story serves as an inspiration to young Filipino farmers whom he is now helping by opening the “School of Hope” where they will be trained prior to deployment in Australia.
Arnel Corpuz is a modern Filipino hero who does need a government position to help achieve Food Security in the country.
