Best ‘Marang’ Ice Cream Gets P50,000 Top Prizes(FOOD FOR THOUGHT by Manny Piñol)

Manny Piñol

Here is an opportunity for our local Ice Cream makers to show their talents and skills and earn a grand prize of P50,000 for the best tasting “Marang” Ice Cream.

The Best “Marang” Ice Cream competition will be done on Dec. 15, a day before I mark my birthday and this will be held in my home village, Nueva Vida in Mlang.

All participants will be required to submit 500 Ice Cream cones each using “Marang” from farmers in Makilala, Kidapawan, Magpet and other towns of North Cotabato.

The Best “Marang” Ice Cream maker will get a top prize of P25,000, 1st Runner-Up P15,000 and 2nd Runner-Up P10,000.

There will be consolation prizes for all the participants and all of the Ice Cream in cones that they will bring to the competition will be paid for.

It was the young Mayor of Kidapawan City, Paolo Evangelista, who gave me the idea of making Ice Cream using local farmers’ products like Cacao and Kalabasa.

This is a move worth replicating because it brings out the best in our people while providing a market for the produce of our local farmers.

I have chosen “Marang” as the raw material for the Best Ice Cream competition because it is one of the major tropical fruits produced in North Cotabato which had not been successfully market.

“Marang,” while very perishable, is highly in demand in markets in the big cities because of its unique taste and aroma.

(This contest is open only to Cotabato ice cream makers. Those interested, please send message to Rose Parillo +639171146762. Thanks.)
