Hybrid Sorghum Seeds for grains and Silage production will be available during the 2nd Wagyu & Sorghum Forum in Roxas, Isabela Jan. 17.
Over 1,000 bags of 20-kilo seeds will be transported from the cold storage facilities of Green and Grow Teknologies in General Santos City to Isabela in response to the great demand for Sorghum seeds from Luzon farmers.
Those interested to buy the seeds but cannot attend the Roxas, Isabela Wagyu and Sorghum Forum could order by email fistagrigroup@gmail.com addressed to Dr. Roland Fajardo.
The Sorghum Hybrid is the Jowar White Variety which has adopted well to the tropical climate of Mindanao where we first introduced it.
Grains Production ranges from 6 to 8 metric tons per hectare harvested at 105 days while Forage Yield for Silaging is between 30 to 40 tons per hectare harvested at 70 to 80 days.
Sorghum is planted once every year and could be harvested three times when used for Forage production because it grows tillers after cutting called “Ratoon.”
Sorghum is drought-tolerant and only needs 25% of the water requirements of corn.
Its ability to regrow at least twice after the first harvest saves farmers on expenses in land preparation and the cost of seeds thus increasing farmers income.
In our Mindanao trials, Sorghum has proven to be an outstanding Silage material for Cattle in paddocks and is now being used in our Cattle Fattening Program.
Local Government Units who will procure seeds will be issued corresponding receipts for proper fund liquidation.
