DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Council approved on Tuesday, the P3.6 million financial assistance to be donated to local government units that declared a state of calamity following the destruction caused by Typhoon Basyang earlier this month.
The city expects a total of 320,524 families in 1,464 barangays affected by Basyang to benefit from the financial assistance. The approved measures grant assistance to the following areas:
Province of Surigao del Sur — P1,000,000
City of Iligan, Lanao del Norte — P500,000
For municipalities in Surigao del Sur:
Municipality of Cortes — P300,000
Municipality of Madrid — P300,000
Municipality of Bayabas — P300,000
Municipality of Cagwait — P300,000
Municipality of Carmen — P300,000
Municipality of San Miguel — P300,000
Municipality of Lanuza — P300,000
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, chairperson of the committee on Finance, said the funds will be sourced from the 30 percent Quick Response Fund portion of the city’s five percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for calendar year 2026.
Dayanghirang said the city has P235,203,855 available under the DRRMF in the 2026 annual budget.
The assistance was recommended by Alfredo Baloran, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, for LGUs that have declared a state of calamity due to Basyang. This stemmed from DRRMC Resolution No. 09-2022, adopting DCDRRMC Resolution No. 05-2020. (By Ivy Tejano)
