The vision of establishing a farm family-based Wagyu Cattle Industry is slowly but surely taking shape.
After the last three Wagyu Forums scheduled in General Santos, Mandaue City and Cagayan de Oro City next month, an estimated 1,000 heads of Wagyu Breeders are expected to arrive in the Philippines from Australia.
Many of these breeders will go to the farms of individual farmers who have joined the Philippine Wagyu Association by buying between 15 to 25 heads.
The rest will be brought to the Great Arch Farm Feedlots where we will breed them for “Off-Farm Wagyu Raisers.”
There are also Local Government Units like Zamboanga del Sur and Iligan City which are establishing their own herds.
The first batch of 1,000 Wagyu Breeders will serve as the source of island-born Wagyus which could later he acquired by individual farmers.
The basic foundations in building a Philippine Wagyu Industry is now being established with the introduction of Silage Production and modern feeding technology.
Our dream is to replicate the Japanese model where “Wagyu cattle are raised on specialized farms, often in lush, serene environments like Kyoto and Kagoshima, focusing on extreme care to produce high-quality marbling.”
Just like Japanese “Wagyu farmers (who) raise the cattle in enclosed pens or barns, focusing on a specialized diet to improve the marbling,” we would like Filipino Wagyu Farmers to have a few heads in barns in their farms.
Fed and raised well, the Philippine Wagyu will provide Filipino consumers with quality beef.
It will also open windows of opportunities for Filipino farmers to produce high-value Cattle.
