In my two recent trips abroad, I brought along with me my son, Bernhart Immanuel, a 5th year Veterinary Medicine student in a State University in the South.
He had been a very effective aide, booking our tickets and hotels, accomplishing E Travel Documents and driving long distance.
More than just to help me during my travels, I brought Imman along because I am initiating a transition for my advocacies in Agriculture.
At 24, I feel he is now ripe to start engaging with people I work with and my advocacy partners.
In my travels lately, I made sure that Imman established contacts and working relationships with those who share my advocacies.
Imman is an average student but he is an outstanding learner who works hard to understand what I am doing.
At 72, I am certain that it won’t be long before the knees and back will feel the stress of the constant travels.
Somebody has to take over what I am doing now and I know that Imman has the heart for the things I am deeply involved with.
Soon, I will pass the torch to him, the farming tradition which my father passed on to us just as it was passed down to him by my grandfather.
It is my dream that the farming tradition wil be carried on by my grandchildren because it makes who we are and what we are.
