The President speaks of rockets, spaceports, artificial intelligence, and the country’s journey into the global technology value chain. It sounds impressive. It sounds visionary. It sounds like the future. 🤔
But for millions of Filipinos, the future can wait because they are still fighting to survive the present.
While Malacañang dreams of launching rockets into space, countless patients are lying on stretchers in overcrowded government hospitals. Some are forced to share beds. Others wait for hours—sometimes days—just to see a doctor. Families sleep on hospital corridors because wards are full. In far-flung barangays, health centers lack medicines, equipment, and even enough healthcare workers to meet the most basic needs of their communities.
What good is a rocket soaring thousands of kilometres into the sky when a poor Filipino cannot even secure a hospital bed on the ground⁉️
What national pride can be derived from a spaceport when pregnant mothers travel for hours to reach the nearest functioning healthcare facility⁉️
What glory is there in talking about aerospace technology when cancer patients, dialysis patients, and indigent families continue to beg for assistance to stay alive⁉️
The tragedy is not that government wants to explore space. The tragedy is that government appears more excited about reaching the stars than fixing the broken systems beneath its feet‼️
A nation does not become great because it launches rockets❗️
A nation becomes great when no child dies because medicine is unavailable❗️
A nation becomes great when no patient is turned away because there are no more beds❗️
A nation becomes great when healthcare is not a privilege reserved for those who can afford private hospitals❗️
For decades, Filipinos have been promised modern hospitals, accessible healthcare, adequate medical personnel, and quality public services. Yet every year we hear grand announcements, ambitious projects, and billion-peso programs while the reality inside many government hospitals remains unchanged: overcrowding, shortages, deteriorating facilities, and a healthcare system perpetually struggling to meet the needs of the poor‼️
The irony is painful.
“Government wants to build a gateway to space, yet many Filipinos cannot even access a reliable gateway to healthcare.”
“Government wants to join the global race for advanced technology, yet thousands of rural communities still lack adequate medical services.”
“Government wants to reach the stars, while ordinary citizens are merely hoping to survive another day.”
✅️Vision is important. ✅️Innovation is important. ✅️Scientific advancement is important.
🚀But leadership is ultimately measured not by how high a rocket can fly, but by how many lives are uplifted, protected, and saved.🔥
Before we celebrate launching rockets into the heavens, perhaps we should first ensure that every Filipino has access to a doctor, a hospital bed, essential medicines, and a healthcare system worthy of a nation that claims to be progressing.
