Over 80,000 hectares of former rich Agricultural Area covered by Lahar spewed by Mt. Pinatubo could become a Solar Power and High Value Vegetable Production, if only our leaders would use a little imagination.
Now a virtual wasteland, I had long proposed the establishment of Agricultural Photovoltaic Greenhouses to produce both Power and Food.
The technology is available and there are working models all over the world.
What is absent are Luzon political leaders who could see the potentials of the area in Agriculture and Power Generation instead of just Flood Control Projects.
Even just a quarter of the P2-T spent for Flood Control Projects could have turned the Lahar Wasteland into a Power and Food Production Area employing thousands.
My prayer is that one day our leaders could think beyond their share from Jueteng Payola and money-making Infrastructure Projects and realize the immense contributions of Agricultural Photovoltaic Greenhouses to the country’s economic growth and Food Security.
