THE STREETS MAY BE QUIET, BUT THE ANGER ISN’T (THE GUEST COLUMNIST by Edwin Espejo)

The people are protest-rally-worn. There is such a thing as rally fatigue.

Many of those who take to the streets—and those who call, organize, and lead these mass actions—have themselves become enablers of the corrupt regime. They have lost their moral ascendancy, their righteous moorings.

But the relatively open and democratic space provided by social media has given people another platform to vent their ire – to pursue their anger.

What they cannot express in the streets, they express in Facebook posts and tweets.

What they most abhor, they ridicule in reels.

What they cannot oust through demonstrations, they seek to dump at the elections.

But this is not to say that the people have lost their appetite for taking to the streets again.

There is a tipping point somewhere down the road.

What remains undeniable is that the fire within them continues to burn.

They may not be out on the streets protesting but they are a people who has not stopped resisting.
