Not everybody in Davao City loves former President Rodrigo Duterte, his children VP Sara, Congressman Polong and Mayor Baste. It is all because of politics.
When Vicente Duterte finished his term as governor of the undivided Davao province everyone thought that was it for the Duterte family.
By quirk of fate 21 years later following the People Power event that ousted the late Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. , Corazon Aquino who served as President of the revolutionary government appointed Rodrigo, a lawyer and Assistant City Fiscal as Vice Mayor of Davao City in lieu of his mother Soledad who refused to accept the position. Soledad and the late businessman Jesus V. Ayala led the Yellow Friday Movement in Davao City which triggered the protest action in Makati that ignited the EDSA revolt.
In the first regular elections in held in 1988 , Duterte ran and won besting appointed Mayor Zaf Respicio and populist radio commentator Juan “Jun” Porras Pala. From then on Duterte won all elections that followed running either as Mayor, Vice Mayor and Congressman and ultimately as President of the Philippnes.
Like him, his children have dedicated their lives in public service. The Duterte brand is sought after and of late politicians have connive to put an end to the spell. They can only try but the Duterte’s act is difficult to follow. Traditional politicians, human rights advocates, religious sectors and the international media criticize PRRD for his profane language and expletives. Recently he was quoted when he declared: “I am running for Mayor and I am sending advance notice to drug syndicates and pushers that you better transfer to Manila for I will kill you if you stay in my City”.
It is not the first time that Duterte uttered a similar warning. Each time the critics have a fiesta condemning him for his uncouth mouth. They did not bother how many lives had been saved on account of those expletives. Words cannot kill but the guilty either go for a rehab, stop their trade or, as he advised, leave Davao.
And now it is VP Sara’s time to face an assemblage of conspirators from the House of Representatives, the Senate, Malacanang Palace and a horde of CPP/NPA terrorists ensconced in Congress and street parliamentarians. They plotted to impeach Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and formed three groups to file separate charges of the same issues in a vain glorious attempt to make it appear several sectors are against the VP.
Their goal is to remove VP Sara because the people have lost their trust on her stonewalling the fact that surveys after surveys Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stood as the most trusted government official while the Speaker of the House remained to be the most distrusted.
The cabal in Congress should not push the luck too far as this may get you into trouble. In 1985 Davaowenyos took to the street to denounce the murder of Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino and brought the indignation rally to the streets of Makati and wrapped it up in EDSA.
QuadCom has gone too far. An NPA executioner a Ong them sent a decorated General to jail and threaten another for contempt. A long list of officers and men in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the National Police have condemned in a manifesto the reversal of things under the present dispensation. Various Maisug organization including the Moro National Liberation Front are ready to protect VP Sara. Beware and be aware. (Photo: screen grab from GMA News)
