DCWD holds dialogue with CHO-Accredited Private Desludgers

Davao City Water District, in partnership with the City Health Office (CHO), held a dialogue with CHO-Accredited Private Desludgers (APD) on July 17, 2025 at the DCWD Matina Office Multi-Purpose Hall to discuss the rollout of its upcoming Sanitation Service that will provide affordable, reliable, convenient, and envi-friendly means to collect, transport, treat, and dispose of septage from household and establishment sanitary tanks.

In attendance were 16 operators and representatives from various private desludging companies in Davao City. DCWD presented options for APDs on how they can streamline their business with DCWD’s Sanitation Service.

The APDs will still continue providing desludging services where they will dispose to DCWD’s state-of-the-art fully-mechanized Septage Treatment Plant (SpTP) where the collected septage will be properly treated and disposed or reused.

DCWD also discussed an overview of the Septage Management Program (SMP) roadmap and shared updates on the SpTP No. 1 located in Brgy. Indangan where the collected septage will be safely and efficiently treated. The desludging plan for 2026 was presented, prioritizing Barangays Indangan, Cabantian, Communal, Panacan, Mandug, and Mudiang, all of which are located near SpTP No. 1.

During the open forum, participants also raised operational concerns and shared recommendations including the need to address issues related to illegal desludging.

The dialogue is part of the City Government of Davao and DCWD’s continuing advocacy campaign to promote and secure support for the Davao City SMP which aims to protect public health and the environment through proper septage management. It also forms part of DCWD’s ongoing preparations for the full-scale implementation of its Sanitation Service. (𝑲𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆 𝑨. 𝑴𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒛𝒂)
