Among the many reasons why not a few decent men and women distance themselves from politics is the very cruel nature of the beast. They shun politics because their image gets tarnished by rabid attack dogs unleashed by their adversaries.
Thus we end up having to choose the lesser evil.
Ironically it is not an assurance that the educated from respectable schools would make a good leader we elect in various positions. Our country had been ran by men from prestigious universities. If we reckon from the present crop of leaders, what we have these days are specimens of the most corrupt Homo sapiens this benighted country ever had.
We sneered at movie stars and famous pugilist. One was elected President but whose term was cut short when he was ousted in the Second EDSA Revolution when the senator-judges voted not to open an envelope that allegedly contained incriminating evidence against him during the impeachment trial.
In today’s scenario the top leadership mired in the pool of corruption have connived to impeach the Vice President who refuses to be part of the venalities. She is being accused over how the OVP Confidential Intelligence Fund was spent.
Three groups filed the impeachment complaint. The CPP/NPA, Catholic priests and a band of lawyers.
The accusers of the Vice President are horrified over how the ₱125-million CIF expenditures but are totally blind over how multi-billions of people’s money went to corruption. The same groups stonewalled the billions of pesos transferred from PhilHealth, GSIS, SSS, and the recently discovered transfer ₱117-billions from PDIC to augment the treasury which had been hemorrhaging from unprogrammed expenditures. These and the 25 tons of gold that were secretly sold as the treasury is sucked by the kleptomaniacs in the government.
There could be more. Despite these magma of corruption the pious Catholic priests and legal luminaries and communists would rather accuse the Vice President how her CONFIDENTIAL INTELLIGENCE FUND was spent.
It is a sad commentary but we have a kleptocracy worse than the first that ousted by people power and sadder because commies, priests and lawyers are in collusion to preserve it.
