When the prevailing price of rice hovers in the vicinity of ₱45 to ₱60 per kilo and someone sells rice at ₱20 per kilo it’s either the quality had badly deteriorated or the economic advisers are prepared to lose substantial amount of money for after all it’s peoples money and not from their pockets.
It’s election time and the administration “Alyansa” candidates need all the help and tricks to be in the winning bracket. Sen. Imee Marcos and Camille Villar had bolted the party and Ping Lacson an adopted independent candidate is virtually doing his own thing.
With a few more days to go in the hustings, the administration is in a panic mode. With the rapid downtrend that the Alyansa bets are experiencing they are virtually falling in an abyssmal pit of defeat and are virtually clinging. on what the proverb say: even on a knife’s blade.
Why and what prompted the Marcos administration to sell rice at ₱20 when the current price of rice is beyond ₱40 per kilo can only be attributed to the fast approaching election day. It is in fact suicidal and insane to sell rice more than 50% less than the prevailing price in the market. It is apparent that the administration is prepared to absorb the loss for afterall it will be borne by poor Juan dela Cruz not minding the tragic fate of the farmers who are hard hit by their own government that competes against them with the
unmitigated importation of rice. It’s the last and final option to save the administration candidates from ignoble defeat.
