Mindanao legislators who signed the articles of impeachment have been subjected to denounciation by their political constituents following the disclosure of names of those who signed the impeachment documents against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Davao del Sur Congressman, Tracy Cagas, the lone legislator from Region 11 who signed the articles of impeachment has been castigated by angry electorates forcing him to issue an explanatory statement.
Cagas admitted signing the impeachment saying that “ it is sufficient in form and substance.” He said that it is his sworn duty to sign the document and for the respondent (VP Sara Duterte) to answer it in the impeachment trial to defend the allegations against her, he stressed.
His ambivalent explanation however only further enrage his erstwhile followers.
In the BARM region, the public sentiments against those who agreed to impeach the VP cannot be contained.
In North Cotabato Congressman Joselito Sacdalan faced the ire of his constituents who even called for the boycott of his family-owned mall in Midsayap.
House Representatives from Surigao provinces were also brow-beaten by there followers in what could lead to political reversals in the region in the coming midterm elections.
In a related development the Maranaw tribe of Mindanao denounced the move of Speaker Martin Romualdez – led legislators. This was followed later by several tribal groups in Davao Region who declared that they will protect Vice President Sara at all cost and placed themselves at her disposal.
The situation remains to be volatile in many parts of Mindanao as the temper of the people have yet to ebb.
