Risa the slayer in political harakiri (LETTERS FROM DAVAO by Jun Ledesma)

You have to give it to Sen. Risa Hontiveros. Despite all the data culled by leading political survey firms showing Vice President Sara Duterte incontestably the most trusted and with the highest approval rating, the Akbayan Senator without any tint of reservation, declared that “if the opposition unites behind her for president she can slay VP Sara.

“If we unite, if we campaign smarter, if we listen to, hear, act on what Filipino citizens and voters are saying and will be saying, we can ‘slay’ her,” she haughtily declared.

Before the resonance of her voice could settle DZRH Situation Report hosted by Cesar Chavez announced the results of its social media poll for potential 2028 presidential candidates showing VP Sara as the top choice among the netizens who participated in the poll.

Chavez who resigned from the Marcos Cabinet as Secretary of the Office Presidential Communications Office said that 24 hours after the survey launch Sara maintained a commanding lead in the digital poll conducted on The Situation Report’s Facebook page as of 1:25 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4. Chavez is currently the Chief of Staff of Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno and on weekends hosted the popular Situation Report which is aired nationwide.

The straw poll focused mainly on VP Sara Duterte, Sen. Risa Hontiveros and DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla to determine the people’s pulse on their preferred candidate for 2028 Presidential bet.

The results is not only a chastisement for Hontiveros who had been very vocal against Sara and another Duterte’s Presidency but a veritable insult to say the least.

The informal online poll results showed VP Sara Duterte with an insurmountable score of 97.6%! Sen. Risa Hontiveros, who had been boasting she can slay Sara, garnered a miserable 2.2% but is in a close fight with Sec. Jonvic Remulla who managed to score 0.2% some humor mongers posted on Facebook.

That is the tale of the tape.

The chastening of Risa moreover did not end there. Last week the Department of Justice dismissed the cyberlibel charges she filed against her seven critics which includes lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, Byron “Banat By” Cristobal, Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz, Krizette “Kiffy” Chu, Jay Sonza and Alex “Tio Moreno” Destor.

The panel of government prosecutors ruled that there was no prima facie evidence with reasonable certainty of conviction to indict the respondents.

The case stemmed from a Senate witness during a hearing against KOJC Executive Pastor Apollo Quiboloy who alleged that he was bribed by Hontiveros in exchange for his testimony.

So there. When it rains it pours. Over confidence kills a cat. Risa and her troopers believe they are a superior political force that could slay Sara. She ended up being slain by her own braggadocio that ended in a political harakiri.
