An open letter to VP Sara: The Noise of Fear and the Shadow of 2028 (THE THIRD EYE by Carlo Manubag)

Carlo Manubag

After Vice President Sara Duterte declared her intention to run for the highest office in the land, the chorus began. Opinions flooded timelines. Reactions multiplied. Statements—both glowing and venomous—echoed across media platforms.

But the noise from those who oppose her is hardly surprising.

They speculate. They distort. They bark as loudly as they please. Yet their outrage is not strength — it is fear.

What stands before them is not merely a political declaration. It is the shadow of a reckoning they have long dreaded.

For years, many have underestimated the depth of her public support. They dismissed it as loyalty politics. They mocked it as nostalgia. They labeled it as blind following. But now that the possibility of 2028 grows clearer, their anxiety betrays them.

And then come the “renewed allies.”Those who once kept their distance. Those who feared being associated. Those who chose silence when courage was required.

Now they declare they are “standing, walking, and running” beside her — even invoking loyalty in the midst of impeachment storms and political turbulence.

One cannot help but ask: Is this a sincere revival of “Tuloy ang Pagbabago”? Or simply an opportunity to reposition themselves for personal political survival?

Because let us be honest — VP Sara Duterte is the lady to beat. Her base remains formidable. Her name carries weight beyond social media theatrics. And where there is strength, opportunists and exploiter gather.

Many seek to ride the wave toward 2028 — not to serve the nation, but to secure their own piece of power.

“Marami ang nagnanais sumakay upang sila naman ang makinabang sa yaman ng bayan.”

That is the real danger — not her candidacy, but those who circle around it with Machiavellian intent.

If her presidency becomes a reality, it must not be anchored merely on economic gains or political dominance. It must be defined by something deeper:

•The execution of corruption.

•The burial of abusive politics.

•The restoration of public trust.

And if 2028 delivers what many predict to be a landslide, my hope is simple yet profound:

May she choose not the most powerful — but the most principled. Not those entitled by proximity — but those purified by conscience.=Not the loudest voices — but the cleanest hands.

Leadership is not about assembling the best résumés. It is about choosing the right souls.

I long to witness — before my own departure from this world — a nation transformed by TAPAT, TOTOO, at TUNAY na PAGBABAGO.

A Philippines that is:

✅️Safe.
✅️Peaceful.
✅️Prosperous.

Governed with integrity and fear of God. A country where:

👊🏻Public service is efficient.
👊🏻Education and healthcare are accessible.
👊🏻Infrastructure is strong and disaster-resilient.
👊🏻Natural resources are protected responsibly.
👊🏻Nights are quiet, not fearful.

May she stand distinct. May she carry her own leadership identity — even as history recalls that her father once called her the Alpha.

And if destiny indeed places her at the helm, may it not be power that defines her presidency — but “righteousness.”

Pagpalain nawa ang kanyang hangarin.

At pagpalain ang ating Inang Bayan.■
