Malungon Council benchmarks Davao City legislative practices

DAVAO CITY – Officials and staff of the Malungon Municipal Council in Sarangani visited the Davao City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to study legislative practices and procedures that could be adapted to improve their own work.

The delegation, led by Councilors Erwin Asgapo and Jan Ken Escalada, attended the council’s 36th Regular Session at Sangguniang Panlungsod as part of a benchmarking activity.

Malungon officials listened and observed how the city legislature applied parliamentary rules, managed sessions, conducted committee work, and handled other day-to-day legislative procedures.

According to Escalada, the delegation also sought to identify practices to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the Malungon Council and strengthen its delivery of public services.

The Davao City Council welcomed the Malungon officials and staff, highlighting the importance of sharing knowledge and experience among local legislative bodies.

According to the Davao City officials, the benchmarking activity also provided an opportunity for the two local councils to exchange insights on legislative operations and institutional practices.

Malungon officials said the visit was intended to provide practical ideas that could be applied to its own legislative processes and help make its operations more effective.

“The activity reflects efforts among local governments to learn from one another and develop more efficient, transparent, and responsive public institutions,” the Malungon officials said.(By Ivy Tejano)
