- Airs doubt about 2028 polls
Vice President Sara Duterte warned supporters to remain vigilant about national affairs and reiterated her earlier concern in the country’s political situation ahead of the 2028 elections.
“We do not know if we still have a country by 2028,” Vice President Duterte said, adding that she was also uncertain whether elections would be held in 2028.
Vice President Sara Duterte also disclosed that her supporters will hold a rally outside the International Criminal Court this week to protest what they call an injustice against her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
In an interview with Alvin & Tourism over the weekend the Vice President said she had informed her father about the “Free Duterte Now” rally, but warned that the protest might potentially hurt his case before the ICC.
Vice President Duterte said the former Chief Executive questioned the purpose of holding rallies, particularly after the ICC cited previous statements made during demonstrations in its decisions.
“I told him (FPRRD) the rally would allow supporters to express their anger and let the international community hear the sentiments of Filipinos over his situation,” Vice President Duterte said in a Filipino.
Former President Duterte moreover told her that supporters could proceed with their plans if that is what they wanted.
The Vice President thanked supporters for their continuing support for her and the Duterte family, saying some Filipinos have been praying for them.
She said she would remain focused on her duties as Vice President, including implementing the Office of the Vice President’s programs and projects and fulfilling its responsibilities under the Constitution.
“We do not know if we still have a country by 2028,” Vice President Duterte said, adding that she was also uncertain whether elections would be held in 2028.
Asked about the former Chief Executive’s condition, Vice President Duterte said her father was doing well and had no problems. She also shared their productive discussion about politics.
Vice President Duterte clarified that they had been discussing politics informally when her security detail told her she had to leave. She said her father had asked for an additional five minutes to finish the conversation. [By Ivy Tejano]
