- Bebot says Edwin is incompetent
Former House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez publicly apologize to the people of Davao del Norte for having supported his former Chief of Staff Edwin Jubahib that resulted in his election as governor of the province.
In an exclusive video interview done by broadcaster Dennis Lazo and posted online later, the remorseful Alvarez confessed that he knew that Jubahib was not qualified for the highest government position in the province since he never had any experience even as a barangay Councilman.
Alvarez whose three- term as Davao del Norte Congressman in the 1st District is about to end is running for Vice Governor. Under Partido Reporma which he chaired, he and his factotum Jubahib defeated and ended the political dominance of the Floirendo clan in an incredible feat in 2019 local elections.
Shortly before the filing of Certificates of Candidacy October last year, Governor Jubahib surreptitiously flew to Manila and swore in as member of Marcos political party, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PHP). He then proceeded to file his COC under PHP and effectively cut ties with Partido Reporma. In a direct affront to Alvarez, the man he owed his political fortune, Jubahib had his daughter Clarise filed her COC as his Vice Gubernatorial mate thus junking his erstwhile benefactor.
UP to this writing Jubahib has not come up with explanation behind his estrangement with Congressman Alvarez. For his part, Alvarez cannot explain why Jubahib did not only leave Partido Reporma but also fielded his daughter to run against him.
Last week the former Speaker recovered from the shock and blasted the governor at the same time regretted he supported Jubahib. In his emotional outburst Alvarez underlined the incompetence of his former aide saying he picked up Jubahib from being a conductor of a Bachelor Bus and supported him to become the Governor of Davao del Norte.
Alvarez admitted he committed a grave mistake when he twice supported and endorsed Jubahib and swore that he will not allow the public to be cheated again the third time.
In a separate Facebook post written in Cebuano, Congressman Alvarez entoned: “Ayaw na botohi si Edwin Jubahib kay walay utang kabubut-on ug walay respeto…ang botohi ninyo si Aldu”. (Do not vote for Edwin Jubahib for he has no sense of gratitude and respect. Vote for Aldu.) Alvarez also exposed that the incumbent governor, who had been suspended twice for Abuse of Authority and misuse of government assets, is facing more cases. He moreover did not elaborate.
“Aldu” is the acronym of Congressman Alan Dujali who is running for Governor in Davao del Norte. A largely perceived performing government official whose projects through legislations benefited not only District 2 but also District 1 he was endorsed by various sectors in the province to run for governor.
Recently, in rare instances where both Dujali and Alvarez met in barangay and town events, the two would exchange pleasantries. Alvarez would then endorse Dujali for Governor to the delight of the public.
Dujali is backed up by congressional candidate in the 1st District Oyo Uy whose father is the incumbent and re-electionist Mayor of Tagum City. In District 2, his partymate, neophyte JM Lagdameo, is running practically unopposed.
