DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Council is coordinating with relevant government agencies to investigate and address reports of motorcycle riders performing “Superman” stunts and engaging in illegal drag racing activities along the Davao City Coastal Road.

Committee on Peace and Public Safety chairperson Councilor Luna Acosta said the committee is coordinating with the Land Transportation Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office to identify the individuals involved and determine their backgrounds.

Acosta said coordination is also ongoing with Task Force Davao and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office, which maintains outposts in the area to help monitor activities along the coastal road. She noted reports that some of the riders may be minors.

“I am calling the attention of these riders to refrain from turning public roads into spaces to satisfy their desire for high-speed riding, not only for your safety but also for the entire community,” Acosta said during the Pulong-Pulong sa Dabawenyos media forum on Tuesday, June 2.

She also reminded riders not to risk their lives for social media content, stressing that drag racing is only legal when properly permitted and conducted in designated areas. “If you think safety is for fun, I hope you will think again and stop your illegal activity.”

The councilor said the city is also prioritizing education, community reminders, and coordination with barangays regarding the illegal drag racing and the kite-flying incident at the coastal road, as well, which injured a motorist, while studying the need for possible new legislation.

Acosta clarified that kite-flying is not illegal as long as it is used in a designated area where nobody gets hurt. She reminded parents and children that the coastal road is not a recreational space and should not be used for activities that could endanger motorists or pedestrians.

Meanwhile, the 12 Amboyz Motorcycle Group clarified in a statement posted on its Facebook page that it is not affiliated with the group of men on motorcycles seen performing stunts and drag racing along the city’s coastal road.

12 Amboyz also disowned the “Street Legal 12 am Boyz,” who appeared in a viral video showing reckless riding. They emphasized that it does not support reckless riding and that they advocate strict compliance with traffic laws in Davao City.

The group said it promotes a responsible riding culture grounded in discipline, respect, and strict observance of road safety rules. It emphasized that riders should be mindful of their behavior on the road to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.

On the other hand, Acosta said the city continues to enforce its anti-smoking ordinance and liquor ban strictly, despite violations persisting, particularly among minors and non-residents who are less familiar with local regulations.

Acosta said the committee is also studying stricter measures against smuggled cigarettes and vape products, as well as possible amendments to address paid drinking parties held in private houses and condominiums, which may fall outside the coverage of current regulations.
